How do you like them apples? A venture into portraiture
I think that if i could be good at anything in photography it would be portraiture. This is anything from having a scene set up and someone to model for me to more of a street photography style.
I am the kind of person who learns through doing so i put out a plea to family and friends on Facebook and luckily a few brave people volunteered to be my guinea pigs! I hope to post them all here as I go along.
My first model is one of my closest friends and is responsible for almost anything positive that i learned about photography. A trained and talented photographer she came into my life when i got my Canon SX20 and has very patiently taught me the main features and the basics of what i need to know as I have moved to the Rebel that I have now. She is always positive and ready to give advice and encouragement.
Christine was at my apartment to collect her photos from her show that was featured at a local gallery during the month of March. I would greatly advise checking out both her regular blog and her project blog.
I had many ideas for the photoshoot so naturally practically none of them came to fruition lol. Instead we ended up getting three apples from the grocery store one night and working with what little we had in the apartment. Unfortunately the three apples refused to stay on her head (I may post some of the other pics with two apples later) but i still managed to end up with some pictures that i could work with.
Many online tutorials later I went from this image:

(Poor Christine is not orange but simply a victim of horrible walmart lamp lighting)
to this

(For someone who didn’t like the movie Garden State this sure seems like a throwback to it)
I hope that Christine likes it! Despite the many hours learning different editing techniques it still has many flaws but thank goodness this is a learning process after all! Heres to hopefully getting a lot better with practice!
If anyone is interested, here is a list of the different tutorials i found helpful:

Thanks Jules!! You know it could have been a bit better with bigger, curlier hair
Hey Erin, You’re getting started! That’s great. I think we could all do with some skin smoothing and eye whitening hey! Christine got some new wallpaper? Nice. Good work my friend!
Thanks Amber! She sure did. Thank goodness for photoshop. Lord knows how much handmade paper would have cost for that background
